Blue Heron Art Studio

About the Artist

I love creating beautiful work that is transformed by the sunlight. When I'm not busy at teaching high school art you can find me teaching and making stained glass work at my home studio, Blue Heron Art Studio, in Saint Albans, VT where I live with my energetic dog, Maple and girl friend. I grow, dry and press all my own florals and leaves, and integrate them in my stained glass work. I love combining the beauty of colored art glass, with the colors and textures from the garden. I personally love create work that is inspired by the mountains, Moths and Butterflies, and House plants. I also teach glass classes at my home studio during the warm months. I do 100% of the design, and fabrication. When creating my work, I start with a sketch and thumbnail drawings in my sketchbook. Then, I move to the computer, to use a digital illustration program to draw my design and export the pattern. I peel the pattern pieces from vinyl, cut and label, each piece. Once the pieces are roughly cut apart, the shapes are refined by using a grinder or ring saw. Next, I use the copper foil technique, preparing the glass to solder. Once soldering is complete, I like to use Novacan Black or Copper Patina before waxing and polishing to finish the work.
